Site DescriptionCrimdon Dene has an enviable position on sloping ground facing the North Sea a few miles North of Hartlepool on Durham's Heritage Coastline. Most areas on the park enjoying fine views along the coast, North towards Sunderland and South towards North Yorkshire. The parks sits alongside fabulous dunes leading onto one of the finest sandy beaches on the coast. On park you will find a club with a family bar and entertainment venue, plus an amusement arcade. There is also a new children's play area planned for 2005. Away from the park there is easy access to the Durham area, or Hartlepool with its reinvigourated harbour where you can find a choice of restaurants and shopping opportunities. DirectionsFrom the A19 just south of Peterlee, take the B1281 turning signed to Blackhall, and drive through Castle Eden, turning left after about ½ a mile signed towards Blackhall. After approx 3 miles turn right at T-junction onto A1086, towards Crimdon. After about 1 mile the park entrance is signposted on the left, beside the Seagull public house. |

Go as far as the Washington services. Then take the A19 signposted to the Tyne Tunnel. Go through the Tyne Tunnel (toll payable). Take the coast road (which is signposted). Follow the A1058 towards the sea front at Tynemouth. Turn left at the sea-front and then follow the road until you see St. Mary's Lighthouse on the right. The Whitley Bay Holiday Park is opposite the lighthouse. From the North - take the A1 South. Just past Morpeth, take the road signposted to the Tyne Tunnel (A19). Take the slip road, which is sign-posted to Whitley Bay. Follow the signs for caravan park |

Site DescriptionEnjoy spectacular cliff top views of the sandy beach, accessible from the Park, or take a stroll along the nearby River Wansbeck. Alternatively a drive north along the coast brings you to sandy beaches and ancient castles under wide open skies. Instead of a busy day exploring, enjoy the Park's own beach, a swim in the indoor pool, or a walk around the Koi Carp lake before a drink in the Beachside Tavern. Here, there's great family entertainment at Bank Holidays and during peak weeks. A more relaxing programme is available at other times. Local AttractionsThe Cheviot Hills provide spectacular scenery and some of the best walking country in northern England. Chillingham Wild Cattle Park contains beautiful white cattle descended from wild oxen. Seahouses. A lively seaside town, renowned for its fish & chips. Take a boat trip to the nearby Farne Islands to see seals, terns, guillemots and puffins. Cragside House. The first house in the world to be lit by electricity. The hillside gardens contain England's tallest Douglas Fir and are home to endangered red squirrels. Morpeth. A historic market town on the banks of the River Wansbeck. Alnwick Castle contains spectacular recently created gardens to rival those of Versailles in France, but is best known as the setting for Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Holy Island is only accessible at low tide. Visit the priory, one of the earliest centres of Christianity in England. Lindisfarne castle, originally a Tudor fort was converted to an impressive home by the famous architect Edward Lutyens in 1903, and overlooks a beautiful walled garden created by Gertrude Jeykll. Bamburgh. Home to the Victorian heroine, Grace Darling, who helped rescue the crew of the stranded 'Forfarshire'. The imposing castle, towering above the wide sandy beach, was first built in the 6th century, but last restored in 1894. DirectionsFrom A1 at Seaton Burn, go on to A19. At the roundabout, go on to A189 to Ashington, heading North. At the first oundabout on the A189, turn right on to the B1334 towards Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. The Sandy Bay Holiday Park is on the right. |
