Formerly The Bell Inn, The Old Bell ceased trading as a public house in 1976. It is believed to be one of the oldest properties in Bell Lane. A date over the fireplace reads 1688. The detached holiday property overlooks Little Green in the older part of the village. The village of Cassington is mentioned in the Domesday Book and the Norman church was founded by Geoffrey de Clinton before 1123. Cassington village is just off the A40 Oxford to London road, 5 miles from Oxford city centre and close to the market towns of Witney and Woodstock. It is an ideal base from which to explore the Cotswolds and is an easy drive to Shakespeare country. London and Birmingham are approximately one and a half hours away on the M40. There are two public houses in Cassington, one very much a &lsquo;local&rsquo; and the other more of an eatery, both of which are very welcoming. The nearby village of Eynsham (2 miles) has a variety of shops, restaurants, takeaways, a chemist and GP surgery. The property enjoys views to the rear, across open fields; a public footpath leads to the nearby hamlet of Worton, and those staying at The Old Bell can use the facilities at Worton Park. In the summer months guests may use the open-air swimming pool and tennis courts. The farm shop sells Worton Farms organic vegetables (please check for opening times) and the Terrace Caf&eacute; (open 10am-2pm, Monday-Friday) produces excellent hot and cold meals and snacks made from both Worton Farms and other local produce. There are many public footpaths around the village of Cassington and walkers will enjoy exploring the surrounding countryside.
