At the foot of Blencathra, near St. John’s in the Vale and Skiddaw, walking is available right from the doorstep - an energetic hill climb or a gentle stroll round Derwentwater 4 miles away. _Ullswater is only a 20-minute drive, with the steamer from Pooley Bridge an easy alternative to explore the lake.
