With its wide steep main street and ancient triple-arched low stone bridge over the River Windrush, Burford is blessed with beauty and interest - from its 13th-century half-timbered buildings, variety of local specialist shops, and church subject to a siege during the Civil War. Burford offers an excellent base from which to explore the Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire Cotswolds. Oxford is 12 miles away to the east and Cheltenham 20 miles to the west. Burford stone was used for much of the town&rsquo;s buildings and was also taken by river to Oxford and London for buildings such as Blenheim Palace and St Paul&rsquo;s.
