Many historical villages and towns are close by, with antique shops to browse around, picturesque cottages to admire and good pubs in which to relax. Stradbroke is only 2&nbsp;miles away with pubs, shops and swimming-pool. Many attractions in Norfolk are equally accessible, including Bressingham Gardens and Steam Museum.<br />The historic towns of Diss, Bury St Edmunds, Norwich and Cambridge are all within easy driving distance, as are the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts for a day by the sea. Nearby, Framlingham Castle &ndash; managed by English Heritage, and formerly the seat of some powerful families (including the Howards) &ndash; offers excellent views of the town and the reed-fringed mere below. The town is also home to St Michael&rsquo;s Church, where some of the best Renaissance monuments in the country can be observed. En route to Framlingham, Saxtead Mill stands as a familiar landmark gracing the site where a mill has been in existence since 1287. The current mill, still in commercial use until 1947, is open for visiting.
