Here you will find dozens of ruined castles and ancient monuments. Seat of the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland, Dunrobin Castle (24 miles) has a distinct French influence, and enjoys views out across the North Sea with seal colonies nearby. There are numerous golf courses, and lochs and lochans within easy reach, where you can fish for salmon and trout. The town of Dornoch (15&nbsp;miles) is home to the seaside links course at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, the most northerly first-class course in the world. Dornoch&rsquo;s amenities include shops, tennis, bowling, sandy beaches and a craft centre located in the town jail!
