The village of Chideock (&frac34; mile) has a shop and friendly pubs. Three miles to the east lies the market town of Bridport, with its many shops and good leisure centre. To the west (10 miles) is Lyme Regis, a seaside town of distinction and charm with a pretty harbour. Dorchester (18 miles), Thomas Hardy territory, has shops, restaurants, museums and cinema. Dorset boasts 18 golf courses; fishing and sailing are widely available all along the coast, and there are excellent country walks from the holiday cottage and along the coastal footpath.
